The Seattle Seahawks waived sixth round pick Garrett Scott one day after he signed his rookie contract because of a rare heart condition, according to USA Today Sports NFL writer Tom Pelissero.

Scott who played his college ball at Marshall was counted on providing depth behind left tackle Russell Okung who missed half the season last year and is currently out after undergoing foot surgery.

The 6-4, 307-pound offensive lineman started 35 games at tackle and guard in college but was unable to compete in the team’s rookie minicamp because he had yet passed the team’s physical.

Now we know why he didn’t get medical clearance to begin his NFL dream.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll talked about Scott to the team’s official website after the draft, “We like the shot of him playing left tackle, because he’s done it and it’s a difficult spot to find. He looked very comfortable there – really has the kind of quickness and light-on-his -feet ability that gives us the thought that he could do that.”

Here’s to hoping Scott will get the proper medical attention to continue his NFL career that was halted before it could begin at some point in the future.
