The Los Angeles Lakers still haven’t found themselves a head coach and the pool seems to be rather shallow this year when it comes to coaches with NBA experience. Unless you want an assistant coming on as your head coach, you’re probably going to interview either Jeff Van Gundy or Lionel Hollins to try and find your guy.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

According to Yahoo! Sports guru Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are now looking at former Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins to fill the void they have and they plan on interviewing him later this week.

"Lionel Hollins has emerged as a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers’ coaching job, league sources told Yahoo Sports.Lakers management plans to interview Hollins later this week, league sources said."

There has also been reported interest in Jeff Van Gundy, but it’s unclear just how reciprocal that interest is. If it’s indeed mutual, then the Lakers will have two of the best coaching options to choose from in Van Gundy and Hollins.

Many believed that the Grizzlies letting Hollins go after he led the team to the 2013 Western Conference was a mistake but he failed to find a job last offseason and has had to wait until this summer to field offers again. It doesn’t look like we will go another year without Hollins in the NBA though, as he is just too good of a coach to be cast off into the coaching abyss and he may end up being the right guy who can fix the Lakers and get them back on track to where they should be.
