After a relatively disappointing 2013 campaign which saw the team finish with a record of 8-8 for the second-straight season, the Pittsburgh Steelers now enter a summer of uncertainty as the organization looks to regroup and put its best foot forward.

As Ed Bouchette points out in a piece for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers may have several issues stemming through its roster, but even so, the open spots for a starting position are few and far between.

The only real openings are at defensive end, inside linebacker and wide receiver, according to Bouchette.

The starting offensive line is expected to return for another run, including center Maurkice Pouncey, who missed all but one game with a torn ACL and MCL in 2013. Marcus Gilbert started every game at right tackle last season, while Kelvin Beachum has little to worry about after a disappointing year from Mike Adams.

Defensive end Stephen Tuitt of the University of Notre Dame was drafted in the second round and is projected by Bouchette to be a starter, as the Steelers “can live with his rookie mistakes.”

Bouchette also likes Pittsburgh to go young at inside linebacker and wide receiver by starting rookie Ryan Shazier and Markus Wheaton, a third-round pick in 2013.

Other than that, it should be business as usual for the team because “young players were put in place before today.”
