Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arraigned today in Massachusetts on chargers that he committed a 2012 murder taht came just weeks before he signed a massive contract extension with the Patriots.

This is a seperate murder case from the one we saw develop last summer when Hernandez was arrested and brought in on inital murder charges to which this 2012 murder has been now attached to. With the 2013 murder case falling apart, the prosecution moved to make the 2012 murder case the primary focus of the investigation and that’s where we stand today.

All in all, the former All-Pro tight end is facing seven serious chargers in court but plead ‘not guilty’ to all seven counts.

The story is as bizarre as it is sad. Listening to the arraignment, it sounds like this entire mess started when someone spilled drinks on Hernandez after bumping into him and then found himself on the other end of Hernandez’s gun later that night.

None of this is good for Hernandez and it’s clear from his not guilty plea that he’s going to fight all of the charges as best he can. The only question is, will his defense hold up against that of his murdered victims, as so far a pretty bleak picture has been painted of and for Hernandez as this murder trial officially gets underway.
