Despite one of the worst seasons in program history (The Florida Gators finished the season 4-8 and lost their last seven games, including a 26-20 loss to an FCS school, the Georgia Southern Eagles and the rival Florida State Seminoles, who went on to the National Championship, 37-7), the Florida Gators have still been able to recruit at an elite level.

In 2014, they finished with the country’s ninth-ranked recruiting class and are trying to improve upon that success in 2015.

On Thursday, they added their eighth commitment in the class of 2015 when 3-star defensive tackle Andrew Ivie gave his pledge to the Gators. He will join his brother, sophomore defensive lineman Joey Ivie, in Gainesville.

“It has always been my dream,” the younger Ivie said of committing to Florida via Luke Stampini of 24/7 Sports. “It is what I’ve been working towards the last three years even before my brother committed there.”

The commitment helped the Gators move from 27 to 24 in the 24/7 Sports’ composite team rankings.

The 6’1, 265-pound Ivie is from Dade City, Florida and attends Pasco High School. Ivie is ranked as the country’s 54th-best defensive tackle commitment, the 115th-best overall prospect from the state of Florida and the 892nd-best overall prospect in the class of 2015, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

Ivie chose the Gators over offers from the Cincinnati Bearcats, Florida Atlantic Owls, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels and Wisconsin Badgers, among others.

He joins 4-star athlete Marcus Lewis and six other 3-star prospects, wide receiver Tristan Payton, center Tyler Jordan, safety Deontai Williams, cornerback Jalen Julius, tight end Camrin Knight and wide receiver Deondre Farrier as current Gator commitments.
