In a time when mascots are often regarded as stupid and not worth having around, the Philadelphia Phillies have one of the few mascots in all of sports that is still generally regarded as funny and worth having around.

The Phillie Phanatic still pulls a number of stunts that other mascots do not. He still bothers opposing players and fans. He is still funny, and in the age of social media and shared videos, he is the rare mascot with the ability to go viral.

He was up to his usual, humorous antics this past weekend. In his cross-hairs was a New York Mets fan who was snacking on some popcorn. The Phanatic proceeded to get his own, over-sized bucket of popcorn. He proceeded to dump the entire heaping bucket on the fan in a comical bit for the fans.

On the list of ballpark concessions, popcorn does not usually jump out at the top of anybody’s list of game-time snacks. That probably makes it a more acceptable option for such a prank than putting peanuts to waste.

One of the best parts of this video is the reaction of the Mets fan that is captured in the slow motion replay. A gentleman who is clearly playing the role of sports fan tough guy, his temporary look of fear on his face is worth it on its own.

Here is video of the stunt from MLB.com:
