The Oklahoma City Thunder need to figure something out when it comes to what their roster will look like in the future, and that means making some decisions on players they may not like.

More from NBA

It’s not that the Thunder wouldn’t like who is moving up and down in their roster, it’s just that by moving pieces around, you inevitably rule out certain players when it comes to them having a future with the team.

Darnell Mayberry spoke with Reggie Jackson after the Game 6 loss to the San Antonio Spurs and was a little shocked to hear that he doesn’t want to be a team player coming off the bench, he wants to be a team player helping out in the starting lineup.

"I asked Jackson if he’s content being a sixth man. I was shocked at his answer. “It’s tough. Like I said, I’m really a control freak so I like to be in control. That’s kind of how I am. I think that’s how point guards tend to be, quirky. I like to feel in control, a guy kind of running the show.”"

This is a bit interesting as it adds to the burning fire of what will happen to Russell Westbrook moving forward. There is a growing contingency of NBA fans who believe that the only way the Thunder can win is if either Russell Westbrook or Kevin Durant leave and Durant is the MVP meaning there’s only one other guy who can go.

If Jackson can work his way into the starting point guard role, he may be able to replace Westbrook and be the new leader of the Thunder offense. But his contract is ending soon and the better he plays, the more OKC will have to play to keep him. But no matter if he stays with the Thunder or leaves in free agency to sign somewhere else in the near future, it’s clear that Jackson wants to start and plenty of teams would love to have him in that role.
