More from Dallas Cowboys

Like it or not, Jones is still the man in charge of personnel decisions. When asked about the tall task of replacing inside linebacker Sean Lee, down with a torn ACL, Jones suggested that the team might stick with internal options at that spot rather than venturing into free agency. As quoted on ESPN Dallas:

"“No, I’m not confident. But there is a good chance we will be able to stay within the personnel we’ve got, but I don’t want to preclude anything because a lot of the evaluation of where we are there is going on right now as well as when we get to training camp. It also has to do with any circumstances that may come up away from the team. All of that is a given. If we had to play with the players we’ve got, I feel good that we could line up against San Francisco.”"

Oh Jerry! You were so close! You were right near the finish line of a perfectly normal, logical thought about football. And then you just had to throw in that last little nugget of nonsense about the 49ers.

The internal options to replace Lee, who was the 10th best inside linebacker in football last season according to Pro Football Focus, will start with Justin Durant and Anthony Hitchens. Depending on how the Cowboys feel after they get a look at those guys, they might explore free agency. But for now they won’t jump out to any hasty moves.
