The biggest free agent prize this NBA offseason very well could be New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony who is expected to opt out of his contract and become a free agent, but don’t expect him to sign with the Dallas Mavericks

More from Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks along with the Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets have been mentioned in connection with the prolific scorer the most, but Dirk Nowitzki does not think it is a realistic expectation the two sharpshooters will be teammates any time soon.

“Somebody in his camp brought up the Mavericks first. It’s not like we brought him up. If we’re actually on his radar, then it’s great. Then, we obviously have to look at it,” Nowitzki said as he prepared for his Heroes Celebrity baseball game. “Like I’ve said, he’s obviously one of the most explosive scorers that we have in this league. If a player like that has your team on the radar, [president of basketball operations] Donnie [Nelson] and [owner] Mark [Cuban] obviously have to look at it. Do I think it’s realistic? No.”

While numerous reports have said the Bulls remain the most likely destination for Anthony, you can’t close the door on the Knicks just yet as he can opt out of his contract and still re-sign with the club that traded so many assets for him a few seasons ago from the Denver Nuggets.
