The NBA world is being consumed by news about LeBron James and his decision to opt out of his contract with the Miami Heat to test free agency for just the second time in his career. But out west there is another player opting out of his deal, as the Los Angeles Lakers have been officially informed that Nick Young will be opting out of the final years of his deal there to test free agent waters as well.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

While it’s hardly as earth shattering as having LeBron James opt out of his deal with the Heat, Young was probably the only player worth talking about from the Lakers roster last season and he’s going to be a name more than a few contending teams take a look at this summer.

Young may end up returning to the Lakers on a one-year deal in which he can further posture for a fatter deal next summer, but he may get a nice offer this year thanks to the way he was the only thing not awful about the Lakers in 2013-14.

Still, Young isn’t a guy that someone is going to max out and that might be what he’s going for by looking at a one year deal to return to the Lakers. He could end up anywhere, but the market being controlled by Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James might result in someone overpaying Young to make up for losing out on a better free agent option.
