Junior Lake crashes into Wrigley field wall (Video)

The Chicago Cubs are having another rough year. Well, things just got rougher.

Cubs outfielder, Junior Lake, crashed into the outfield wall today while chasing a fly ball. This is usually painful enough for any baseball player, running full speed into a padded wall, this was even worse for Lake who, while sliding to catch the ball, ran straight into the most unprotected part of the wall. Lake immediately went down and the Cubs wasted no time sending out help for him.

After a very lengthy and tense few minutes, Lake stood up and walked off the field under his own power. This was great to see because the only thing that lessened the impact of Lake’s blow was the slide.

With everything going on in each sport related to concussions, it wasn’t surprising at all to see Lake come out of the game after his head hit the unprotected part of the wall.

With situations like this, the question presents itself. Why have the Cubs still not put padding behind the ivy on their wall? The mystique is a real big appeal to Wrigley but it’s unlikely fans enjoy watching players run straight into a completely unprotected wall. While the amount of times it happens isn’t much, shouldn’t just a few times be enough of a reason to add more safety to their stadium? What if Lake hadn’t slid? Had he ran full speed into the unprotected wall, the injury could have been much worse than it already is. Lets just be happy for now Lake is okay.
