The Dallas Mavericks may have swung and mised when it comes to their chances of landing Carmelo Anthony but that hasn’t scared them off from trying to get another top free agent to come to town.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Dallas is slowly turning into a pretty great free agent destination as they have cap space to spare after locking down Dirk Nowitzki to a new deal. The Mavericks have been looking out for their own this summer as Tyson Chandler was acquired again, this time from the Knicks, and both Devin Harris and Vince Carter seem to be back on their ways to Dallas.

Mark Cuban still wants a big fish to fry though and according to Dwain Price, that player could end up being Utah Jazz restricted free agent Gordon Hayward.

Hayward will be looking for a max contract but he has no say in what anyone offers him since his restricted free agent status forbids him from being able to negotiate. Still, no matter what the Mavericks offer Hayward it’s more than likely that the Jazz will match it, especially if it’s less than the max, so the chances of getting the guard aren’t very high.

Still, Dallas has never been afraid to try and get a free agent and if Hayward gets scooped up as well, then it’s on to Chandler Parsons, Luol Deng and others on the long list of players that could fit with the Mavs.
