The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a terms on a contract with Chandler Parsons that will pay the forward $46 million over the next three seasons. However, Parsons is a restricted free agent, which means Dallas must send Parsons’ former team, the Houston Rockets, an offer sheet, which gives the Rockets 72 hours to match the Mavs’ offer.

But it appears Dallas has yet to submit the offer sheet to Houston, meaning that clock hasn’t started ticking.

Considering the Rockets’ other free agent happenings, the Mavericks are doing Houston a huge favor.

Free agent big man Chris Bosh is expected to have an interest in coming to Houston if LeBron James leave the Miami Heat.  If the Rockets want to land a star like Bosh and retain Parsons than they need to come to agreement with that star before matching on Parsons.

Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle has the details.

"If the Rockets reach agreement with Bosh on the max contract they have offered and can clear the cap room for him before they run out of time to match Parsons’ contract, they can sign Bosh into the cap room and then exceed the cap to keep their own player, Parsons.(…)If the Rockets match Parsons’ offer sheet before signing Bosh, they would exceed the salary cap and would be unable to sign Bosh."

Therefore, without an offer sheet right now, Houston has a little more time to maneuver their way into signing Bosh and keeping Parsons.

Parsons averaged 16.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season with the Rockets.
