What LeBron James’ decision means for gaming

At long last, LeBron James finally made his decision regarding where he is going to be playing basketball for the foreseeable future.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

After days of unnamed sources claiming a variety of information as fact, James announced via an essay for Sports Illustrated that he was going to be heading back home to Cleveland to play for the Cavaliers. The signing will no doubt have a major impact on the landscape of the NBA in the real world, but what about the landscape of the NBA in the virtual world.

The Cavaliers will immediately go from one of the least-used teams in NBA video games to one of the most — if not the most — used teams in the games. Players across the globe will want to experience what it’s like to have James and Kyrie Irving on the same team, dominating “noobs” online.

And though the Cavs will likely be a popular team to use in the gaming world, other teams may see a positive bump from this decision. If the rumors prove accurate and Chris Bosh joins the Rockets, Houston could become an even more popular team to play with online with a lineup consisting of Bosh, James Harden and Dwight Howard.

What about Dallas? If they land Chandler Parsons, the Mavericks immediately become a fun team to light up opponents with from deep range.

Then there is Miami. The Heat now go from one of the most popular teams to play with to one of the least. The roster, as it’s shaped right now, could be one of the worst in the gaming landscape that would have players choosing the Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings over the Heat.

Yes, the 2014-15 season will be fun both in the real world and the virtual world of professional basketball.
