These wins have ended a rough spell for Rose, ending a 13 month drought. What better way to exorcise the demons than winning two in a row? And on different sides of the Atlantic, no less?
Rose finished the tournament at -16, winning by two strokes over Sweden’s Kristoffer Broberg.
The final day at Royal Aberdeen was a great day for many of the golfers. In fact, Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher and Chile’s Felipe Aguilar both broke the course record with 8-under 63’s.
The course was tamed by Rose over all four days, as he shot in the 60’s in each round. His 69-68-66-65 put him atop the leaderboard.
Rose came into the day in a first place tie with Marc Warren. Warren fell off the pace a bit today with a 70 to finish in third place at -11.
Gallacher’s outstanding final round 63 put him into a tie for fourth place with Tyrrell Hatton.
Top ten finishes for Hatton, Broberg, and Scott Jamieson earned them automatic qualification for the British Open Championship next week at Holylake.
Royal Aberdeen took it relatively easy on the field this week. Seven golfers finished at -10 or better. A staggering 41 golfers finished the 72 hole tournament under par.
Rickie Fowler was the best finishing American at -9 on the weekend. That was good enough to earn him a tie for eighth place.
This second consecutive victory for Rose should put him up to number three in the ranking prior to his return home for the British Open.
