The Philadelphia 76ers managed to turn in one of the worst seasons ever last year and they still only wound up with the No. 3 pick in the draft. That’s how bad the Eastern Conference is as no matter how hard the 76ers tried to lose thir last 30 games, the Orlando Magic and Milwaukee Bucks ended up worse or just as bad as the 76ers.

Still, the 76ers seem to be a year at least away from being any good with the young core they’ve assembled which means they’re a prime candidate to take on salary and amass future assets in the process.

According to NBA scribe Chuck Myron, when to comes to what assets the 76ers can acquire from absorbing salary, two names come to mind that might not only get them the assets they need but could also make Philly respectable in 2014-15.

"Boozer’s certainly a possibility. The Bucks would really like to trade Ersan Ilyasova, although his contract, which runs two more seasons before a $400K partial guarantee in 2016/17, might be a little too player-friendly even for Philly’s tastes. If they"

Boozer and Ilyasova both make a ton of sense for the 76ers but in the end it appears that they’d really be nothing more than salary absorption and that’s not the way to build a winner in the present. Philly might be good in the future, but they’re a wasteland right now and that’s just not going to be attractive to anyone entering the situation.
