Tuesday night was all about New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Whether they wanted to admit it or not, or whether they liked it or not, that was the reality. With one of the greatest to ever play the game hanging up the cleats at the end of this season, you knew that he would get the proper sendoff that Major League Baseball believed that he deserved.

Well in the bottom of the fourth inning, it was time for the five-time World Series winner to exit his final All-Star Game, and the emotions were certainly running high as he made his rounds through the American League dugout, thanking all of his teammates. After that, he took one final curtain call in front of the grateful Target Field crowd.

All things considered, Jeter’s final All-Star appearance was a rather successful one at the plate. He went 2-for-2 on Tuesday night with a double down the right field line in his first at-bat, and then a bloop single to right in his next and final plate appearance.

There’s no telling whether or not Major League Baseball will do anything else to honor Jeter following the game this evening, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they did.

But given his Yankee roots, if one final curtain call in front of the crowd is all he gets tonight, he’ll be more than okay with that.
