The Dallas Cowboys seemed to have an aversion to running the ball in 2013, abandoning it at sometimes confusing moments in the game. The Cowboys finished 24th in the league with 1,504 yards on the season and running back DeMarco Murray still finished with 1,121 yards on the season.

More from Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys were effective when running the ball, averaging 4.5 yards per carry, a mark that was eighth best in the league. So the Cowboys could look to hand the ball off more to Murray, who carried the ball 217 times during the 2013 season. The question becomes, can Murray, who has been injury prone in his career, handle carrying the ball 300 times a season.

“If they decide to do that with me, of course,” Murray told FOXSports.com. “Whatever they decide to do with me, I think I can handle it.”

Murray thinks it will all come down to taking care of his body, something that could be of importance to him and the Cowboys as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.

“You just have to take care of your body and know when to go and fight for that extra yard or inch and know when not to,” said Murray. “That’s something about just being a smarter football player in general and knowing when you’re helping your team and when you’re hurting your team.”
