The Los Angeles Lakers will bring big man Carlos Boozer into the fold after winning his amnesty auction, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

It is currently unknown just how much the Lakers bid was to win Boozer.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

It’s a curious move for the Lakers, as the team desperately needed to improve its defense this upcoming season (L.A. ranked 28th in points allowed per possession in 2013-14) and Boozer has had his fair share of struggles on that end to say the least.

However, Boozer averaged 13.7 points on 45.6 percent shooting last season with the Chicago Bulls, so perhaps Los Angeles is hoping that his offensive talent makes up for his defensive woes.

This is just another twist in what has shaped up to be a very interesting offseason for the Lakers. The team missed out on adding a superstar free agent, but brought back Nick “Swaggy P” Young and Jordan Hill, and have now also added Ed Davis and Boozer.

Los Angeles might not be a playoff team next year, but will at the very least be a fun team to watch.

The Bulls amnestied Boozer on Tuesday and released the following statement (via NBA.com):

"“Carlos epitomized professionalism in everything he did for the Bulls both on the court, and in the community, during his time here in Chicago,” said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman.  “Over the last four seasons, Carlos’ productivity helped elevate our team to another level.  I have nothing but respect for Carlos, and certainly wish him the best as he moves forward.”"
