The question of whether or not the Golden State Warriors are willing to include Klay Thompson in a trade package to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin love has consumed many of us this summer.

More from Golden State Warriors

It appeared, on the heels of rumors that the Cleveland Cavaliers were considering trading Andrew Wiggins for Love, that there was a breakthrough for Golden State and they were now contemplating dealing Thompson, via Yannis Koutroupis of Basketball Insiders on Thursday.

However, according to Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News, the Warriors are still holding firm on their desire not to part ways with Thompsons.

Kawakami writes:

"It hasn’t been a simple slam-dunk decision for Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob and GM Bob Myers–that’s what I’ve been repeatedly told in the last few days by several NBA sources, as the Kevin Love talks continue and the Warriors continue to resist Minnesota’s request for Klay Thompson.(…)Also, as has been noted repeatedly, the Warriors value Thompson very highly, so… the GSW front office has debated this thoroughly–it’s not a clash of opinions, it’s just the way Joe Lacob has set up this management team; he hired strong personalities and he wants everybody to get around a table and express themselves. Then Lacob and Myers make the call.Which leads to: Late last night, a Warriors source flatly denied a report that they are, indeed, offering Klay Thompson to Minnesota."

While Thompson is a very skilled player, there’s a strong argument to be made that Golden State should have no issue trading him to acquire a player of Love’s caliber.

But the Warriors front office clearly disagrees with thought and their opinion is the only one that matters in the situation.

Thompson averaged 18.4 points and 3.1 rebounds, while Love averaged 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds this past season.
