The Atlanta Braves have long been known for their ability to out-pitch their opponents. The pitching staffs that they have built over the years have been a combination of players drafted and developed and players acquired through trades and free agency.

Injuries have befallen the group that was meant to start the 2014 season, leaving the Braves to make a couple moves to piece things together. They added a big name in Ervin Santana and a cost-effective veteran in Aaron Harang to piece together their rotation.

With the team embroiled in a tight race with the Washington Nationals in the National League East, could they be in a position to move on another starting pitcher before the trade deadline?

Not so, at least according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports:

The Braves were previously thought to be one of the teams that could put together a package for Price, but actual negotiations appear to have never taken shape. It also would have been challenging for the Braves to be able to re-sign Price to any sort of extension because of the money they have committed to their young talent the last few years.

Atlanta is dancing a fine line with their starting rotation this season; they have the talent to stay in the race, but not much depth in the event of an injury or some other issue. Even so, it sounds like they will take their chances with what they’ve got rather than dip their toes in the trade market.
