Cliff Lee got thoroughly rocked in his showcase start for scouts Monday night against the Giants. After the game Lee gave an interview to discuss the dishearteningly terrible outing. And then he farted.

“Did you get that on tape?” Lee asked after cutting loose the fart. Yes Cliff. Yes, they did.

That very audible fart may in fact have been the most eloquent possible description of Lee’s performance. In his first game back after two months on the shelf with a bad elbow, Lee gave up 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Yes. The fart was only the second-stinkiest thing Lee cut loose Monday night. Thanks very much.

The Phillies are trying desperately to trade Lee and his massive salary, but the pitcher didn’t do them any favors by getting lit the heck up. The market will still be there for Lee, but you have to wonder how brisk it will turn out to be.

Lee should have been a hot commodity at the deadline, but the way things are going, he might not be worth a wet fart.
