The Boston Red Sox are going nowhere fast this season and that has resulted in the team being pegged as sellers at the trade deadline this year.

More from Boston Red Sox

One of the more talked about names besides David Price has been fellow starting ace Jake Peavy, who has pieced together a decent season with a struggling Red Sox team. Peavy’s trade value is indeed there for Boston and there’s one team who continues to keep an eye on his situation out east.

“Jake Peavy is still on Cards’ back burner according to a major league source,” reports Boston.com’s Nick Cafardo. “Peavy, who starts Tuesday, has made 3 consecutive good starts.”

The Cardinals have watched their pitching staff get devastated by injuries over the course of this season with Michael Wacha being a major loss for the team. But while the Cardinals aren’t out of the National League race just yet, making a big trade for Peavy would be a move that has to result in a postseason berth.

That’s the plan for St. Louis though, and it’s just a matter of how much they think Peavy has to factor into a push for October and how far they think they can get if he’s not acquired.
