San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith had his legal situation sorted out last week. He was given probation and some work days in lieu of jail time, 11 Mondays to be exact.

Smith had pled “no contest” to DUI and gun charges back in May and was just sentenced in July. Smith said on Thursday that he is sober, and has maintained that sobriety since September when he five games last season to seek treatment for substance abuse.

That sobriety has had another affect on Smith, helping him get into peak physical condition for training camp.

“I’m in the best shape I’ve been in, coming into a camp,” Smith said, via Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. “And my mind is probably in the best spot it’s been in. So I’m feeling great.”

Smith could still face discipline from the league on the charges and will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in the near future before he makes a ruling.

One thing is for certain, Smith doesn’t necessarily need to worry about the hammer being dropped on him in the wake of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice’s two game suspension for hitting his fiancee in an Atlantic City casino.
