Baseball has thrived on gimmicks.  At least since the genius that was Bill Veeck made an appearance in the front office.

More from MLB

Do you enjoy bobblehead nights?  How  about baseball clowns such as Max Patkin?  How about mascots?

All of these are gimmicks.  Gimmicks are just part of the game

Often times, minor league owners and GM’s have to do a little more than their major league counterparts.  That is exactly what Myrtle Beach Pelicans general manager Andy Milovich did last night.

Milovich was scheduled for an annual prostate exam anyway, so he figured he would get it done at the game.  You know, so he wouldn’t have to take time out of his busy schedule.

So where is the gimmick?  He had it done in the booth.  During the seventh inning stretch.  While singing the age-old anthem “Take Me Out To The Ball Game”

Don’t believe me?  See for yourself!

That is some composure right there.

So what would possess someone to do such a thing?

This wasn’t your ordinary gimmick.  Milovich promised that he would have it done while singing to the crowd if 10-year-old Fierce Fallon’s Facebook page reached 10,000 likes.

Fallon is fighting brain cancer, and the Pelicans are trying to help.

So that is why a man would go through something so, uh, awkward and uncomfortable.  To help a ten year old with brain cancer, and to raise awareness for prostate cancer.

Way to go, Mr Milovich!
