Taylor Townsend had a rough day.  Her doubles partner Liezel Huber was forced to retire from the match after one of Townsend’s forehand shots got her in the back of the head.

Normally, you would think that would be game, set, match.

Not so in the format of the World Tennis Tournament.  Townsend was forced to keep playing solo after Huber left in the second set.  Townsend and Huber were up 1-0 at the time.

Needless to say, opponents Martina Hingis and Anastasia Rodionova had a huge advantage.

Not only was Townsend not able to play the other half of the court on the serve, she also had to forfeit the serve every time Huber’s turn came up.

This lead to some easy points. To me, this seems very unfair.  If you want to make her continue the match, fine, but at least let her play the whole court! You can’t help but feel bad for Townsend here. After the serve though, she was allowed to patrol the whole court.  It was just too tough for her to keep up against two opponents. To add insult to injury, the opposing team conserved energy by serving underhand.

So what do you think the solution should be?  This seems like a mockery of sportsmanship!
