New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady loves practice. He gets there early, he stays late. He wants to be the best at everything he does, it seems, and that applies to practice as well. Finally, the Patriots quarterback has met his match. Free agent singing Darrelle Revis has a similar intensity that he brings to practice.

More from New England Patriots

” … I’ve played against Darrelle for a lot of years, playing him two times a year with the Jets for a long time, so I know the kind of competitor he is,” Brady said on Sirius Radio “Movin’ the Chains” as transcribed by ESPN Boston. “Having him in practice every day makes all of our guys better because they’re seeing the best, a guy that competes every play in the run game and pass game, on every route. He gets pissed off like I do when a ball gets caught on him. So it’s a nice little competition every day. You’re trying to get the best out of each other.”

In gameplay, quarterbacks are often fighting against the entire defense — the pass rush, the linebacker and secondary coverage. In practice, Tom Brady can face off directly with Darrelle Revis. The receiver may play a role as a third party, but with two players as skilled at their positions as Brady and Revis, the matchup is much more about them. Brady can throw the receiver open. Revis can shut down the receiver and give Brady nowhere to put the ball. The result will be a sharper Brady and Revis come preseason. The longstanding rivalry mixes with healthy competition and forms team chemistry.
