One of the teams who look like they could be sellers are the Philadelphia Phillies but despite the presence of more than a few solid trade chips, the team has been awfully quiet on the trade market and that’s something that has fans wondering why deals aren’t being done or be
According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Phillies might not be getting any trades done this summer because they may be asking for too much in return for their trade chips.
"The Phillies want four or five prospects for Hamels (I wrote three last week and was told by a Phillies official I was too conservative) and it doesn’t appear anyone would pay that type of bounty. Around the industry, the Phillies are being perceived as asking too much for their players. The Phillies are saying “make us a fair deal.”"
Hamels is the specific example here, but after all the mention of Marlon Byrd and others on the roster who have trade value, the Phillies have been surprisingly quiet. With only a few more days to go before the deadline passes, there will need to be some price adjustment by the Phillies if they want to auction off any of their veteran pieces to contenders who don’t want to overpay to get them.
