Many believe the Rays’ recent resurgence in the standings means they are no longer interested in dealing ace lefty David Price, but though this seems logical, it may not necessarily be accurate.

More from MLB

Per a report by Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Rays are still very much open to dealing Price and continue to field offers for the pitcher:

"Waiting not only allows more time to get the type of hefty offer they’ve been seeking (from the Cards, Dodgers, Mariners or a surprise team), but also to better assess their chances of winning the American League East if they keep Price, with their wild-card possibilities much less of a factor in the decision. With two more wins against Milwaukee and two Baltimore losses to the Angels, the Rays would be within a reasonable five games with 54 to go (including seven with the O’s), making a trade unlikely. Lose two to Milwaukee while Baltimore wins two and being nine out seems like too much to make up. Status quo of seven would make for an interesting call."

In other words, the Rays are going to let this play out until the very last second before they make up their minds. Today, they may feel like they are still in the race and should keep Price, but that thinking could change over the course of one or two days.

So, Price is not necessarily off the trade block. He could still end up in Los Angeles, Seattle, St. Louis or somewhere else.
