Mark Sanchez may be a garbage quarterback but he is no dummy. Being smart, Sanchez knows that when you move to a new team your first job is to ingratiate yourself with the fanbase any way you possibly can. And the best way to do that, generally, is to talk crap about your former team.

More from New York Jets

For Sanchez, getting on the good side of his new fans is doubly-important, because they happen to be Philly fans. Sanchez knows he has to make a special effort to get in good with the Philly fans, so he won’t be booed or spit on or beaten up.

And that’s why Sanchez said this (via Bart Hubbuch):

NICER. Sanchez is picking up a “nice” vibe from Philly fans. Much nicer than those miscreant Jets fans who booed him for the mere crime of sucking.

It’s likely that Sanchez is lying just to suck up. It’s possible he could be in denial about the low-level hostility he is already receiving from the Philly faithful. There is an outside chance that Philly fans haven’t yet realized Sanchez is even there and what he’s picking up as “nice” is actually obliviousness.

Only thing I know for sure is, if Sanchez ever gets on the field, that nice vibe is going to turn ugly on him really fast.
