There has been a list of teams most consistently mentioned with Lester but one or two of them seem to be dropping their pursuit or at least taking the foot off the pedal when it comes to how seriously a deal is being pursued to land Lester from the Boston Red Sox.
According to Jon Heyman from CBSSports.com, the Dodgers aren’t so hot on acquiring Lester anymore and have apparently cooled when it comes to their desire to make a trade happen.
"The Cardinals don’t look like they need a starter after landing Justin Masterson, and reports from Peter Gammons and Tim Brown suggest the Dodgers may be backing off. It is known LA has been hesitant to give up any of its top three prospects — Corey Seager, Joc Pederson or Julio Urias."
Los Angeles was looking to possibly be a player on the market, and adding Lester would have been tremendous for their starting rotation. But the move isn’t garunteed to work out, which means that adding Lester could actually be something that sets the Dodgers back, especially when considering he’s not all that interested in comitting to a team outside of Boston before seeing if the Red Sox can’t give him a deal he likes in the winter.
Still, you can never say never at the MLB trade deadline and the Dodgers cooling on Lester doesn’t at all mean they’re out of the running to get him from Boston.
