Patriots wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins put cornerback Brandon Browner on his butt at training camp. On the following play, Browner returned the favor. Browner got physical with second-year pass catcher, perhaps too physical. After both plays had transpired, he and wide receiver coach Chad O’Shea engaged in a yelling match, according to CSN New England reporter Phil Perry.

Perry explained that reporters are not allowed to write what was on the practice field, but wrote that “Browner was visibly upset at Shea — taking a few steps toward him — and the two exchanged words as Browner’s teammates intervened.” Browner is likely glad that what he said can’t be reported.

“As a coach I gotta respect him,” Browner said,  via CSNNE. “That’s nothing I want to talk about or put on TV because I respect him.” Browner also explained that they “hugged it out” afterwards.

As for his work against Thompkins, well, he’d been craving that physicality for quite some time.

“It was a physical one, man,” Browner said after practice. “We gotta compete out here. I’m tired of giving up balls so I had to turn it up a little bit today.”

It’s not even preseason, but Browner, a former member of the Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom” wants to play at game speed with full aggression.

“It gets us both better,” Browner said. “Guys on the other side of the ball, it’s what [opponents are] going to do in guys in games. And it’s what they’re going to do to me in games . . . That’s my style of play. Play aggressive. You don’t want to cost your team any penalties, but we’ll let the officials do their job.”
