In their pursuit of more offense, specifically from the right side of the plate, the Seattle Mariners have added a number of talented though uncertain players.

Veteran right-handed slugger Corey Hart was one such player, and to date that experiment has not worked out. That has been due mostly to injury struggles, a theme that continued this weekend as the team had to once again place Hart on the disabled list.

This time it is a bruised right knee for Hart, an injury that will likely keep him for for a month. At least that is the time table Hart is hoping for.

From the Tacoma News Tribune:

"“I know we’ve only got two months left,” he said, “so I would love to make sure I get back and be competitive for the last month. But I want to be competitive. I don’t want to come back and be doing what I’ve been doing.”"

What is especially discouraging for Hart and the Mariners is the fact that he has now sustained injuries to both legs to miss extended time, as it was a left hamstring strain that landed him on the shelf previously.

When healthy, Hart has still generally seen his production decline. He has just five home runs in 58 games of action and is slashing .203/.278/.314 so far. The Mariners probably won’t hold their breath for a big return from Hart before season’s end, instead counting on the likes of Kendrys Morales, Logan Morrison, and now Austin Jackson to help prop up their struggling offense for a playoff push.
