The MLB free agency period this winter is already shaping up to be an exciting time, as the likes of Jon Lester and others will be hitting the market and be free to sign wherever they want.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

One name that his hitting the market is Los Angeles Dodgers star Hanley Ramirez as he’s going to be coveted if he switches to third base and sells himself as the star he once was.

As pointed out earlier this afternoon, Hanley Ramirez is going to be a pretty hot name on the free agent market this winter and while the Dodgers seems like a great fit for him to return to, the New York Yankees could be viewed as Derek Jeter’s replacement.

"Clearly Ramirez will have to move to third base, unless the Yankees get involved and he stays at shortstop to replace Derek Jeter. Ramirez remains a very talented player who can go on tremendous hot streaks at the plate."

The Yankees are already stockpiling potential replacements for Jeter as they acquired both Martin Prado and Stephen Drew at the trade deadline and now seem to be interested in Ramirez. Of course, it’s not being reported that the Yankees are actively pursuing Ramirez, but it’s definitely an option that is going to have to be considered if the Yankees want to start winning again and get back to the level they were once on.
