Speights’ blood alcohol count was between .103 and .106 at the time of his arrest. A former Florida Gator and 16th overall pick of the Phialdelphia 76ers, Speights is a native of St. Petersburg and played high school ball for one year at Admiral Farragut Academy.
Speights spent 2008-2012 with the Sixers before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He was then traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He signed as a free agent with Golden State in 2013.
Speights was a member of the 2007 Florida Gators NCAA championship team.
Interestingly enough, Monday happened to be Speights’ birthday, and his former coach Mark Jackson tweeted this at him hours before his arrest:
Jackson should have added, “And don’t get busted for DUI. Celebrate your birthday responsibly Marreese Speights.” Too late.
