Pierre Garcon and the Washington Redskins have high hopes for the 2014 season. They have a new head coach, a new offense, and a new lease on life as far as they are concerned.

For Garcon’s part, he also has a new running buddy in the passing game in DeSean Jackson. A few “ifs” still linger for the Redskins, however, with Robert Griffin III’s ability to make enough NFL throws chief among them.

Another question has to do with Garcon and his ability to stay on the field. The 27-year-old receiver has made it clear by now that he is a serious weapon when he plays (113 receptions and 1,346 yards in 2013). He has been dinged up from time to time, however, and his health will be a key issue for the Redskins’ offense in 2014.

This week Garcon is dealing with a sore hamstring and had to sit out of practice on Tuesday. From CSN Washington:

"Garçon has been battling soreness for about a week and, as a result, has been in and out of practice.“Just being precautious,” said Garçon, who watched from the sideline. “If it was a game today, I would have been able to play.”"

Injuries in August aren’t a big deal yet, but here’s betting the Redskins will want to monitor this situation to make sure Garcon does not enter the season with a lingering injury.

One can easily envision Garcon being the guy who is a game-time decision, week after week, with a hamstring injury (to the utter dismay of stressed out fantasy owners). The Redskins will hope that a proactive approach to the injury now prevents it from being a thing later.
