Tom Brady believes Robert Griffin III faces more pressure than he ever did

We can only assume that Washington Redskins’ quarterback Robert Griffin III envies New England Patriots’ QB Tom Brady in any number of ways, ranging from his ability to throw a football to his career resume.

Not surprisingly, Brady does not envy Griffin and he confirmed as much on Wednesday. That stance has more nuance and context to it, however, as Brady cited the pressure placed on Griffin in the age of the 24-hour news cycle as the reason for that opinion.

From CSN Washington, here is what Brady had to say:

"“The news cycle is different now and there is so much pressure for the young guys,” Brady said. “The spotlight is so bright, and these younger players have an opportunity to develop and there are less practices now and less time they can spend at the facility, so there are different challenges that they’re facing.”"

At the present moment Brady handles the storm of media coverage around the NFL as deftly as anybody. He might have benefited from the chance to learn from his mistakes in a relatively calmer time, however.

When it comes to Griffin or Cam Newton or (gasp) Johnny Manziel, they are left to handle the pressure of the news cycle for the first time for the world to see. If they make a mistake, we see it, we hear it, and we spend 48 hours analyzing it, even if it might just be a kid in his young 20’s trying to figure things out.

That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is something that requires an immediate adjustment for quarterbacks when they first arrive in the league.
