The Chicago Cubs didn’t pull off any of the big pitching trades they were rumored to be making at the last minute, but they still look like they might be down to adding some top tier talent in the offseason when it comes to adding an ace arm to their staff by some means.

More from Chicago Cubs

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Cubs are going to be looking at getting aggressive this offseason to add an ace arm like Max Scherzer or Jon Lester.

"Chicago is expected to be aggressive this winter or next in efforts to sign an ace, and Max Scherzer and Jon Lester, who is familiar to Cubs higherups from their Red Sox days, will be free agents after this season."

The Cubs were rumored to be in on trades for David Price, Jon Lester and Cole Hamels and they ended up claiming Hamels after watching Price get acquired by the Detroit Tigers. But the Cubs adding someone in the offseason with a big contract isn’t outside the realm of reality, as the pursuit of Hamel, Lester and Scherzer seems like it might have already started in Chicago.
