Detroit Pistons’ restricted free agent Greg Monroe was hoping to really cash in during free agency this offseason but that simply hasn’t happened. Most teams probably thought the Pistons would match any offer for Monroe – and they likely would have – which scared them off.

More from Atlanta Hawks

Monroe and the Pistons obviously aren’t on the same page and Monroe has refuted reports the Pistons offered him a five-year deal worth $60 million. This could lead the two sides to part ways. One team that has reportedly been interested in Monroe from the start of free agency is the Atlanta Hawks. Although they may have the league’s best big man duo in the league with Paul Millsap and Al Horford (provided he’s healthy), they’d love to add another All-Star type of big.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes the Hawks are still in the mix to acquire Monroe, perhaps in a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers as a facilitator.

"Yes, most certainly. See the answer to my question about why the Sixers are saving cap room for an answer. The Hawks could wind up offloading salary to the Sixers to facilitate a sign-and-trade deal for Monroe (although the Hawks wouldn’t have to offload much, since they already have some cap room of their own)."

Monroe put up 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 65.7% from the free throw line last season. He’s averaged 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 50.8% from the floor and 67.8% from the charity stripe in his career.
