The Philadelphia Phillies may have Cole Hamels on their roster now and may be unwilling to trade him to the Chicago Cubs, but all of that might change in the near future as the Winter Meetings near and Hamels’ name continues to be floated as the big arm to to watch this winter.

More from Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox lost Jon Lester this summer to a trade that netted them All-Star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes from the Oakland A’s but that might not be the biggest deal they make this calendar year.

According to MLB scribe Steve Adams, the Red Sox are well positioned to make a run at getting Cole Hamels in their rotation this winter.

"I’m sure the Red Sox (along with a lot of other teams) will have plenty of discussions with the Phillies regarding Hamels this offseason. I don’t think there’s a “favorite” yet per se, but they’re well positioned to make an offer. Keep in mind, of course, that the Phillies probably don’t feel they NEED to move him."

Boston was heavily rumored to be after Hamels this trade season but nothing ever happened, however that doesn’t mean nothing will happen. If trade talks took place, Boston already has a foot in the door and given what they acquired at the deadline this year, they have more than enough to make a run at getting Hamels and making their rotation solid once again.
