EASHL not in NHL 15?

UPDATE: A source close to the situation claims that the build he played on Monday did not have the mode listed in the menu. It’s unclear whether any online modes were available for selection in the build, or if it was the same build I had access to a short time ago that included just a play now option.

FanSided is working on further clarification.

ORIGINAL: A hot rumor making the rounds in the sports gaming world involves the possible removal of one of the more popular game modes available in NHL 15.

Starting last night after a post appeared on Operation Sports, rumors have run rampant that the EA Sports Hockey League (EASHL) will not be included in the current-gen — Xbox One and PlayStation 4 — version of the NHL 15.

According to the report, a listing on Best Buy Canada’s website is what sparked the rumors of the mode’s exclusive from the game. The website’s listing for the game seems to indicate that it will only support two-player online play. To further add fuel to the fire, the Xbox 360 version of the game lists that 2-12 players can play online.

The EASHL allows players to take their created player online in a team environment and compete against other teams for monthly championships. It’s been one of the fastest-rising game modes since its launch in NHL 09, with updates to the mode every year since its inception.

One source close to the matter states that EA Sports would be making “a major step in the wrong direction” if the mode was removed from the game in the jump to gen-four.

FanSided has reached out to multiple sources at EA Sports regarding this rumor, and will update this post should we receive information.

I asked fans on Twitter what the removal of the game mode would do in regards to their purchase of the game, some of the responses can be found below.

Mike’s Musings: There is just no way EA Sports can remove this game mode in the transition to the new consoles. It’s just too popular and too key to the online aspect of the game to do so. If, and that’s a big if, this rumor somehow proves accurate, than this could lead to a major blow to the franchise’s sales and reputation.
