New England Patriots acquire Jerel Worthy from Green Bay Packers
By Jack Crosby
With just a few weeks until the start of the NFL regular season, the New England Patriots hit the trade block on Tuesday, acquiring defensive Jerel Worthy from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a late-round pick.
Worthy was selected in the second round by the Packers back in the 2012 draft, and he played in 14 games his rookie season, amassing 11 total tackles and 2.5 sacks. He was limited to just two games in the 2013 season last year after he tore his ACL in January of that year.

As far as this summer, Worthy has not practiced while he nurses a back injury, which could end up hampering his chances of making the Patriots’ roster. Nonetheless, the Pats took the chance on him because, as usual, they love to stockpile big bodies up front to see what eventually ends up sticking.
While healthy in Green Bay, though, Worthy struggled to get acclimated to defensive coordinator Dom Capers’ system, so he might have a better time in New England under theirs.
The pick that the Packers could receive in this deal is contingent with Worthy making the team after camp.
