Back in February, Virginia Cavaliers’ head coach Mike London likely saved his job by convincing two of the country’s best prospect, 5-Star defensive tackle Andrew Brown and 5-Star safety Quin Blanding to sign with the Cavaliers. London is trying to work more of the magic this year on the recruiting trail and has been doing an excellent job as of late.

Last week, London got commitments from a pair of linebackers, 4-Star Jahvoni Simmons and 3-Star Kareem McDonald.

This weekend, he received a pledge from 3-Star defensive end Rasool Clemons. Clemson was also very interested in the LSU Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers and West Virginia Mountaineers but in the end, it was the Cavaliers that beat out the Tigers.

“I mean, LSU was my heart, but at the end of the day it was a business decision,” Clemons said via Eric Russell of The Aiken Standard. “Virginia is a school where I feel like I can go and be a part of turning the program around. It’s a great system. They’re talking about using me at defensive end and outside linebacker, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Clemons admitted he’s just happy to have the process over with.

“It’s like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders,” Clemons said. “Now, I can just focus on school and football.”

The 6’6, 212-pounder is from Aiken, South Carolina and attends South Aiken High School. He is ranked as the the country’s fourth-best weak-side defensive end prospect, the eighth-best overall prospect in the state of South Carolina and the 388th-best overall prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

Clemons is the 18th verbal commitment for the Cavaliers. Their class now ranks sixth in the ACC and 27th nationally.
