NHL 15 game modes on PS4 and Xbox One

Late on Tuesday, with less than a month until the game’s release, EA Sports finally filled fans in on the game modes that will be coming along for the ride when NHL 15 makes its leap to the new generation of consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

And, unfortunately, the rumors that have been circulating were proven to be correct as EA Sports has dropped GM Connected, EA Sports Hockey League and any version of Online Team Play from the game.

In a statement released to fans, NHL lead producers Sean Ramjagsingh told fans that the modes weren’t able to be implemented in time for the game’s release on Xbox One and PS4.

“Given our commitment to build a truly new generation of hockey games for our fans, we had to make some tough design decisions,” he says, “…despite our team’s best effort to squeeze as much into the game as possible at launch, we will not be able to deliver EA SPORTS Hockey League or Online Team Play when NHL 15 releases on September 9 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.”

Ramjagsingh did say that Online Team Play will be added to the game via a content update post launch after final testing of the mode is completed. However, EASHL will not be in the current-gen version of NHL 15 in any way shape or form.

“As a franchise, we’re 100% committed to the EA SPORTS Hockey League,” he said. “While we can’t deliver EASHL in NHL 15 on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, we have huge plans for the mode in future iterations of the game.”

But don’t worry, there will be some game modes that you will be able to play on your current-gen version of NHL 15. Modes like Hockey Ultimate Team, Be-A-GM, Be-A-Pro and the almighty Play Now will all be available at launch. Even Online Versus is an option for you.

That being said, the modes are expected to be largely unchanged from NHL 14. That means Be-A-Pro, which has been downgraded from the Live the Life mode that debut, and faltered, last year, will be the same as it’s ever been. Same goes for Be-A-GM.

Oh yea, and let’s not forget about Practice! Seriously, EA Sports is touting practice as one of the game’s featured modes.
