On Wednesday night, news surfaced that Pittsburgh Steelers running backs Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount were arrested in Ross Township earlier in the day after a police officer smelled marijuana coming from a Camaro that was being driven by Bell.

Both men — and an unidentified woman who was in the back of the car — were arrested for marijuana possession after a police officer uncovered 20 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.

Bell was also charged with a DUI.

The Steelers traveled to Philadelphia later in the day for their Thursday night preseason game against the Eagles, and Bell was not on the team flight. However, Blount was but there is no word on whether or not he will play on Thursday.

Following the arrest, the Steelers have released a brief statement on the incident:

"“We’re gathering information regarding reports on Bell, Blount and have no further comment.”"

Since that statement, the team has made no further comment.

Bell and Blount are the Steelers’ top two running backs, so if either player is subject to punishment from the team their depth chart will take a serious hit.

Outside of Bell and Blount, rookie Dri Archer would be the team’s starting running back.

Archer stands just 5-foot-8 and tips the scales at 178 pounds. There would be obvious concerns about his ability to handle the workload, so the Steelers will be hopeful that Bell and Blount will both be able to suit up for the team’s regular season opener.
