Drew Brees has had a remarkable career thus far in the NFL. Already a sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famer, Brees plays in search of his second Super Bowl ring.

More from New Orleans Saints

Besides for Brees’ sensational statistics and records through the years, one stat that often gets overlooked when discussing Brees is the fact that he is an iron man of sorts. In the last decade, Brees has missed only two games. During his eight seasons with the New Orleans Saints, Brees has missed only one start.

That is why it is strange for Brees to have had a two-week absence due to a strained left oblique. Although Brees doesn’t necessarily need the reps himself, his teammates do, and Brees is keenly aware of that fact.

Speaking with the media, Brees could not hide his excitement to get back on the field this weekend when the Saints take on the Indianapolis Colts.

“I want to get out there and feel comfortable,” Brees told Nola.com. “I feel like this week’s been great, just to get back out and feel like I’m throwing the ball like I should. Now it is time to take it to the game field and go through this final dress rehearsal before the (regular) season.”

“Anytime you’re coming off an injury that was directly related to you throwing, there’s this ramp-up that takes place,” Brees continued. “I didn’t want to push it too hard, too fast because I didn’t want to take any unnecessary chances with it.”

Although Brees has taken his minor injury slow, he is ready to turn loose this weekend on the field, stating that “after a while you’re like, ‘Come on, man: Forget it. Just play ball.’ I’m at that stage right now, just playing ball.”
