The Miami Marlins are looking at what they can do with All-Star slugger Giancarlo Stanton and one of the more popular ideas analysts have is for the team to trade him.

But Miami wants to sign Stanton to a long-term deal and that’s been the reason he hasn’t been traded this summer. That doesn’t mean a deal will get done but the Marlins know they have something special in Stanton whether they trade him or keep him.

According to Barry Jackson from the Miami Herald, the Marlins aren’t interested in trading Giancarlo Stanton but will be looking for a fat return if he’s ever traded.

"The Marlins are confident they can get a lot for Stanton even if they wait closer to his eligibility for free agency, perhaps before the 2016 season or during it. Last month, the Red Sox traded ace Jon Lester three months before free agency and got Yoenis Cespedes from Oakland."

You can’t blame the Marlins for thinking that they can get huge return in a Stanton trade as Stanton is so much better than Cespedes. Getting an ace like Jon Lester will be required in any trade involving the Marlins slugger — simply put.

Miami has started to turn things around and that’s something Stanton wants to see. He’s an All-Star and a rising star in the game, and if Miami can’t make a commitment to winning with Stanton then a trade will grow more likely as the months go by.
