Either Andrew Wiggins has an excellent public relations team or he’s excited about the opportunity to emerge as a mega-star as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Prior to the blockbuster trade that sent then-Cavaliers players Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and Philadelphia 76ers forward Thaddeus Young to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love, there were lots of discussions on whether Wiggins could reach his projected potential playing third banana behind LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. And from this comment, it may be safe to assume Wiggins believe the same.

Often, number one selections are chosen to carry teams from the NBA dumps. We’ve seen it in the past with the LeBron James’, Shaquille O’Neal’s, Michael Jordan’s and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s of the league. With the 2014 NBA Draft being compared to the 2003 NBA Draft, many expect Wiggins’ talent to be similar to those mentioned.

Now, out of the shadows of James and Irving, Wiggins will get a clear chance to prove what echelon he belongs in. He won’t have to carry the load early on–Kevin Martin and Nikola Pekovic will be tasked with keeping the offense afloat, but as the years surpass, it’ll be Wiggins who’ll form into the face of the franchise.

With this kind of talk, there will be a lot of eyes on Wiggins. Hopefully he can live up to the hype.
