USC cornerback Josh Shaw’s story of how he injured his legs on Saturday continues to look more and more untrue by the hour. Shaw initially said he injured himself jumping down two stories to save his seven-year-old nephew from drowning.

But on Tuesday, after Shaw had received recognition as a hero, USC revealed it was an investigating the situation after reports surfaced that suggested Shaw’s telling of the night was not accurate.

Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News was among those that reported Shaw’s injury occurred as a result of an incident with his girlfriend.

Now, TMZ Sports is reporting that Shaw was actually named in a burglary report on Saturday, though he was not named as a suspect.

They write:

"Here’s the breakdown — we’re told someone called police to report a suspicious person “shimmying” down the side of a building in downtown L.A. near the USC campus. The tipster gave a description of the suspicious person to police. We’re told cops went to the building to investigate  — and spoke to a woman who lived in the building. Cops gave the woman the description of the suspicious person and asked if she had seen anyone who matched the description. We’re told the woman said, “Yes, that sounds like my boyfriend Josh Shaw.”"

While there’s obviously still uncertainty about what exactly happened, it certainly doesn’t appear at this juncture that Shaw is a hero at all.

Once a feel-good story, this is in all likelihood going to have a bad ending.
