The reigning Big Ten Champion Michigan State Spartans are beginning their 2014 season on Friday night and their trek toward what many believe will be a berth in the College Football Playoff. However, to get there, they will no doubt need to ride the coattails of their outstanding quarterback, Connor Cook, and that was almost taken away from them early on.

More from College Football

Right after the game got underway in East Lansing on Friday, Cook rolled out to his right, looking for an open man down the field. He was able to ultimately get the pass off, but what happened next has everyone holding their breath, Michigan State fans especially.

Watch in the video below as Cook takes a dirty shot to the knee from the Jacksonville State defender, something that makes you simply cringe.

Luckily, Cook went over to the sidelines and was able to get right back in the game. But this is the worry that a lot of fans have with these cupcake games. With a huge match up with the Oregon Ducks coming up next week, the last thing everyone would want to see is Cook go down on a senseless play like this.

Not only did he return to the game, but he threw a TD pass immediately upon his return. So at least he got his revenge.
